In the beginning of this year, it was reported that WhatsApp was working on incorporating usernames within the app. A feature that would enable users to set a username for their profile was discovered in the beta version of the popular messaging app that is available on Android. An app that is owned by Meta is currently in the process of developing a new feature that will enable users to search for other users on the app based on their username. Reportedly, the feature is now being developed for a future update of the application that will be available on Android smartphones.
According to a report, the messaging app is now working to improve its usernames function. This improvements would allow users of WhatsApp to search for other users on the app by searching for their username. In a manner analogous to the search by username tool that is available on Telegram, this latest enhancement to WhatsApp has the potential to enable users to contact with unknown individuals without having to reveal their phone number.
The functionality would be made available to users of WhatsApp version 2.23.25.19 through the Google Play Beta Program. In addition to that, it shared a screenshot of the application, which shows the search box that enables users to look for individual people based on their name, username, or phone number. Because users would no longer be required to reveal their phone number in order to initiate a new conversation within the WhatsApp app, this feature would make WhatsApp interactions more confidential. Users have the option of creating a one-of-a-kind username, altering the one they already have, or completely removing it.
Additionally, it was claimed that WhatsApp was working on channel usernames during the previous month. These usernames would enable channel subscribers to enter the username in order to open the channel. During the month of October, it was also seen that the application was working on a new username picker for WhatsApp beta version 2.23.20.71. In accordance with the report, the creation of a one-of-a-kind username, which will be able to accommodate alphabets, numbers, and some special characters, will be voluntary.
Within the messaging app, WhatsApp has been working on features that would increase users’ level of privacy. In more recent times, it has included a new Secret Code function for locked chats, which enables users to conceal their private talks by means of a code. For certain conversations, locked chats already provide protection by utilizing the device’s personal identification number (PIN) or passcode, or by scanning the user’s face or fingerprint.
